the North Star project 2011
description
A series of approximately 50 paintings with subject matter drawn from four farming and grazing properties in the North Star area of northern New South Wales, by Australian artist, Christine Porter. Subject matter includes the shearing shed and other buildings. Watercolour on paper, the sizes range from 10cm square to a large work 79 cm long. about the artist
artist statement
There's a thing that happens with the landscape, when I'm out in the field. It's there, constructing the picture plain, as it were. Horizon, sky, land; each translates into an area of the painting as important as the man-made element that is the subject never-the-less.
This series was the main project for 2011. It was exciting and challenging to deal with the strong landsape element of the project. I loved being able to make large paintings and to extend myself some. Thankyou to the family who invited me to be part of this - it was fun.
