Christine Porter: printmaker

  • Christine began printmaking in 1994 at the McGregor Summer School, working over the years with a number of teachers including Wim de Vos, Basil Hall, Ron McBurnie and Michael Kempson: all contributors to her understanding of this amazing and enthralling artform.
  • In 1996 she set up her studio in Lismore - Full Moon Editions - complete with Artequip B580 press, a Richeson table press and an antique letter press which was a gift from Tenterfield artist Anne Spencer.
  • Her etchings have won prizes and been exhibited nationally and internationally including in 2007 when Randolf Galleries in Edinburgh, Scotland hosted an exhibition of her other people's treasure's suite. She has prints in the National Gallery of Australia as well as many smaller public, corporate and private collections worldwide.
  • In 2006, she graduated from Southern Cross University in Lismore with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in printmaking, which added a new dimension to what had been, up until then, an essentially subject-based practice.
  • Most of Christine's etchings are multi-plate colour etchings. For a full description of any of the technical terms in the printmaking section of this website go to the glossary. She works small - between 6 and 12cm square - even though some of her earlier work was larger. She uses mainly traditional etching and printing techniques.
  • In 2010 she launched the narrative project that creates opportunities for collectors and potential collectors to collect beyond the single-artwork-in-a-frame acquisition.

RURAL ETCHINGS

 Basket & Broom.jpg

There are a number of etchings suites that relate back to, and have evolved fromher rural paintings. These include a series of works about the ubiquitous woolbasket (the three basket suite, pictured), an ongoing series of shed etchings, images about the cotton industry, and a body of work about the importance of the museum shed in maintaining the historical links with a rural past. image: basket and broom 2004 colour etching size from the three basket suite

MORE PERSONAL WORK

it\'s your move . multi plate colour etching c porter.jpg

Since 1995 , in her other people's treasures suite (pictured), Christine has been using the intimate format of these small (up to 6cm square) multi-plate colour etchings to explore her world. Other work that is both personal and indeed of a more universal nature, includes the Hadrian's wall series, the dragonfly diaries and recent work about the almost nomadic nature of the plants and animals in her garden. image: It's your move 2005 multi-plate colour etching from the other people's treasures suite.
