artist statement

In her travels as a serial artist-in-residence across rural Australian sheep and cattle stations, Christine is often shown caches of apparently random collections of domestic or architectural minutiae, stored in various sheds or rooms, without any sense of order, or reference to museum protocols.

She writes: The first museum shed I came across was outside Goondiwindi where a tilly lamp appeared to hold a place of importance not really in keeping with its state of disrepair. It was carefully stored in a shed along with other bits and pieces deemed too old to use yet too interesting to discard. After that I began to find other sheds or rooms, on other properties across the countryside full of stored memories. Objects that, in their repose held the stories of a time just at the edge of remembering; the collection a segue between their past and our future.
